Phillip Earl Wilson Montgomery ’82

Phillip Earl Wilson Montgomery ’82 of Hartford, Connecticut, passed away on September 5, 2024. Phillip came to Hanover from Westminster School and graduated with a degree in history. He played soccer, was a member of the Afro-Am, did a foreign study abroad stint and a Tucker fellowship. Phillip spent the last 31 years at the Connecticut Business and Industrial Association as the director of compensation services and safety and a certified compensation and benefits professional. Colleagues and those he served described him as kind, gentle, gracious, friendly, tremendously knowledgeable, intelligent, empathetic, compassionate, funny, authentic, trustworthy, wise, and “a bright light.” Bernie Thompson ’82 also remembers Phillip as having a good sense of humor. Phillip was a member of the Connecticut soccer and lacrosse officials associations and a member of the soccer association’s board. He also served on the board of Journey Found, a developmental disability service providing support to adults with disabilities, which he considered one of the most important and impactful aspects of his life. Phillip enjoyed jazz, gardening, reading, biking, playing tennis, discovering new restaurants, watching soccer, and spending time with his wife, Andrea ’83; son Phillip; and his large extended family.
