Peter Morrow Collins ’59
Peter Morrow Collins ’59 died on June 10, 2017. He entered Dartmouth from Great Neck (New York) High School, majored in psychology and was a member of Alpha Chi Rho. He was the coxswain of the freshman heavyweight crew and coxed the varsity heavyweight crew for the next three years. Peter served as an officer in the Navy for three years following graduation from Dartmouth and earned his law degree from Boston University in 1965. He began a career in law in Burlington, Vermont, and in 1968 cofounded the firm of Paul, Frank and Collins, which had grown into one of the leading general-practice law firms in the area at the time of his retirement several years ago. In addition to practicing law and helping build and manage the law firm, Peter taught business law at Champlain College for almost 20 years and later served on its board of trustees for about 15 years, including several years as board chair. Peter learned to sail on Long Island as a youngster and continued his love for sailing on Lake Champlain and in the British Virgin Islands. In addition to sailing, Peter loved the natural beauty of Vermont and enjoyed motorcycle riding, hiking and cross-country skiing. He leaves Bern, his wife of more than 55 years; children Philip, Andrea and Kelly; four grandchildren; brother Christopher and sister-in-law Luanne; and several nieces and nephews.
