Peter Kilpatrick Hussey ’83

Peter Kilpatrick Hussey ’83 of Seattle passed away December 19, 2024, surrounded by family following a battle with Parkinson’s disease. Following high school in Westfield, New Jersey, Peter entered Dartmouth, where his brother Brian was an ’81. Throughout his years in Hanover Peter competed on the ski team, traveled to Germany on a language study abroad, and was a member of the Mountaineering Club and Panarchy. During this time, he also met the future love of his life, Winifred “Winky” Stearns ’82. After graduating summa cum laude with a major in physics, Peter headed to San Francisco to work at IBM and moved in with Erik “Schlag” Hamerschlag ’82. Winky relocated to San Francisco to teach and moved in with them. The stars aligned and Winky and Peter fell in love. Peter chose Harvard for his M.B.A., and the couple moved to Boston and married. Peter worked for Microsoft in Seattle after graduation, where he and Winky raised their children. While work was exciting, Peter found time to coach his kids’ sports teams, mountain climb, and ski. In his mid-30s Peter noticed a tremor in his hand. After he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Peter left Microsoft to explore the startup world, volunteer with the Progress Alliance of Washington, and travel, including a three-month family European road trip. Sadly, Winky died unexpectedly in October 2023. Last spring Peter took his family to Vermont for the April 2024 eclipse. He is survived by his mother, Mary Jane; brothers Andrew and Brian; and children Lucas ’11, Th’12, Duncan, and Clarkie.
