Paul F. Johnson ’78

Paul F. Johnson ’78 of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away on August 1, 2020, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Paul came to Dartmouth from Amherst, New Hampshire, and lived in Brown Hall his first year. “We were as alike as Russell Sage and the Choates,” recalled roommate Dave Jones ’78. “He worshiped Yes and Steve Howe; I was a Duane Allman kind of guy. He put up with my ways, and I his. I admired Paul’s love of music and his disciplined approach to life.” Paul was involved with WDCR radio.After leaving Dartmouth Paul went on to many successful business ventures through the years. As a creative software engineer, he was a cofounder and VP of Great American Software Inc., makers of One-Write Plus and Money Matters accounting software. He co-developed Bill Rogers’ WinTrainer software. One of his business partners described him as “a programmer extraordinaire—a genius.” He also founded two software consulting firms. Love of music continued to be a big part of his life. He played the keyboard and sang in the Souhegan Valley Chorus with his mother, Lydia, who predeceased him. He was an avid photographer and loved nature hikes and bird watching with his wife, Wendy.He is survived by Wendy, two stepchildren and their spouses, and threegrandchildren.
