Pamela Jean Gile ’76

Pamela Jean Gile ’76 passed away on December 15, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. Born in South Africa, Pam came to Dartmouth from Cohasset, Massachusetts, with her brother, John ’76, and following a long line relatives, including her father, grandfather, cousins and uncles into Hanover. She was one of the many female multi-sport athletes who started the fledgling women’s athletics program at Dartmouth. She was a friend to many and a familiar face around campus, with her yellow Lab Indie at her side. After Dartmouth she spent most of her working life in the Upper Valley at a number of companies: AMCA International, Houghton Mifflin, Kendal at Hanover, Loctite Luminescent Systems, Alice Peck Day Hospital, TeleAtlas and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. As vice president for planning at Alice Peck Day Hospital, she was responsible for implementation and construction of Harvest Hill Retirement Community. Pam was actively involved in the life of the Upper Valley and served on many nonprofit boards. She was dedicated to helping those who were diagnosed with cancer and led fundraising efforts for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center. She participated in the Prouty with her friends on the TGIF team, who supported one another through their diagnoses and treatments. She was a joy to those who knew her and loyal to her friends and family. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Peter, children Andrew and Paul and two grandchildren, along with sister Joanne and brother John.
