Paul William Kerr Jr. ’52

Paul William Kerr Jr. ’52 of Temple, Texas, died on January 1 in a local hospital. Paul was born on August 2, 1930, in Elkhart, Indiana, and attended Elkhart schools until age 14. He graduated from Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Missouri, in 1948. Paul attended Dartmouth for a year, then joined the U.S. Navy. He was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy in 1950. He resigned in 1951 and finished his education at the University of Maine in Orono, graduating with honors and Phi Beta Kappa and as a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. In 1952 he married Jane Quint, whom he met while at Dartmouth. Paul worked at American Steel & Wire in Worcester, Massachusetts, then at Acme Steel in Harvey, Illinois. He then became president of Howell Corp. in St. Charles, Illinois, followed by president of American Desk Manufacturing in Temple. While in Temple, Paul was, at various times, chairman of the Texas Association of Business (twice), president of Temple Rotary, chairman of Temple Chamber of Commerce, and chairman of Temple’s centennial celebration. Jaycees voted him “Outstanding Man of the Year” in 1982. Retiring in 1995, Paul and Jane enjoyed life on their ranch in Belton, Texas. He is survived by Jane; children Stephen, Darcy, Scott, Bradley, and Angela; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
