Tim Burdick

The Great Indoors

New leader of outdoor programs is desk-bound.

Envy Tim Burdick ’89, DMS’02, at your risk. “It’s a great job, but it’s not per se an outdoor job,” says the new director. He’s been rock climbing, skiing, whitewater kayaking, and trail building during work hours, but he doesn’t spend all day outside, contrary to popular belief. “I spend half my time in meetings and the other half responding to things that come up in those meetings,” he says. “It really is an administrative job.” An expert in wilderness medicine, outdoor education, and forestry, Burdick served as associate medical director at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Manchester and as an assistant professor at the Geisel School of Medicine before taking the job last August.
