Myles Livingston Jacobs ’54

Myles Livingston Jacobs ’54 passed away on October 11, 2018, at the Joliet (Illinois) Community Hospice Home. Myles came to Dartmouth from Forest Hills, New York, where he attended high school. At Dartmouth he was a government major and a brother of Tau Epsilon Phi. After graduation he enrolled at New York University Law School. In June 1955 he left law school to spend two years in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corps as a lieutenant stationed in Joliet doing procurement work. He then returned to earn his J.D. in 1959. He practiced for a short period of time in New York City and then moved to Joliet, where he joined the law firm of Robson, Masters, Ryan, Brumund, and Belom. In 1965 he became a partner. He spent his entire career at that law firm, serving as managing partner. Myles specialized in real estate law and represented local savings-and-loan associations. Myles received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Bar Association and served as chairman of the real estate law section council continuing legal education program committee. He was the editor-in-chief of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education Handbook on Residential Real Estate. He was past president and trustee of the Joliet Jewish Congregation, a board member of Will Grundy Medical Association, and a charter member of the Joliet Lions Club. Myles is survived by his daughter, Julia. His wife, Barbara Ann, predeceased him.
