Laurence Dixon Bain ’54

Laurence Dixon Bain ’54 passed away on September 4, 2018, at the Neville Manor in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dix came to Dartmouth from Ridgewood, New Jersey, where he attended Ridgewood High School. At Dartmouth he was a philosophy major and a member of the Undergraduate Council, Glee Club, and Dartmouth Christian Union. After graduation he roomed in New York City with classmates Harry Robinson and Stearns Martin, working for Bell Labs (Western Electric) until it closed in 1967. From 1967 to 1972 he served as executive vice president of Westbeth Development Corp., which acquired the former headquarters of Bell Telephone Laboratories on the Hudson. In 1971 Dix attended MIT as a Manhattan Institute Fellow. From 1974 to 1987 Dix was project manager and sales manager of ABT Associates. In 1988 he became principal of Corey Hill Associates and Chobee Hoy Associates Real Estate, marketing and developing real estate in the Boston area. In 1994 he became president and then vice president of the Brookline Improvement Coalition Development Fund. He is survived by children John, Ariana, Elise, Jordon, and Mark. He was predeceased by his wife, Joanne.
