William Colton (“Tony”) Quimby ’52

William Colton (“Tony”) Quimby ’52 died on September 16, 2018, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Tony was born in Cleveland on April 26, 1928. He attended the Hawken School in Cleveland and graduated from Kimball Union Academy in 1946. He then served two years in the U.S. Army before entering Dartmouth, where he majored in history, played varsity lacrosse, and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi, Dragon, and the Glee Club. Tony also received an M.A. in education from Harvard. In 1953 he married Emily Neidert and they moved to Hartford, Connecticut, while Tony worked for Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. In 1963 Tony joined Dartmouth as a financial aid officer. He worked there for 30 years. Sadly, Emily passed away in 1986. Tony met and married Charlotte Houde in 1989. Both were active in their church and a wide variety of political and charity organizations. Charlotte’s expertise in women’s healthcare next led them to Uganda, where Tony accepted a volunteer position for Case Western Reserve University’s HIV/AIDS project in Kampala. Finally, as their health needs dictated, Tony and Charlotte decided to move to assisted living in Lebanon. Charlotte passed away in early 2017. Tony is survived by children David, Susan, and Douglas; two grandchildren; and stepchildren Robert, John, David, Judy, Beth, and Matthew Houde ’91 and their families, including 10 step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.
