William H. Terry ’51

William H. Terry ’51, whose career was devoted to film and television production, died on August 31, 2018. He was a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, at the time of his death. Bill spent 45 years in the film industry at Time Life Films, NBC, and Warner Brothers. Among his many accolades was a Blue Ribbon Award for best documentary film at the American Film Festival. His interests in storytelling and broadcasting were apparent during his years at Dartmouth. He majored in English and drama and was a member of the staff of WDCR, the College’s radio station. Following graduation he served for two years on active duty as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. Bill was always an active volunteer. He offered his time, energy, and creative talents as a docent at the Museum of Flying in Santa Monica, California, building and maintaining trails at the Santa Monica Mountains Trail Council, as a literacy volunteer in the San Fernando schools, as an ambulance corps paramedic in New Jersey, and at the Strathmore Music Center in Maryland. His wide-ranging interests included flying (including in vintage aircraft), model trains, and swimming. Bill is survived by three children and four grandchildren. His father, William E. Terry, was a member of Dartmouth’s class of 1921.
