Joseph Anthony Crotty ’83
Joseph Anthony Crotty ’83 passed away on November 9, 2017, from complications from gastric cancer at home in Boise, Idaho, surrounded by his wife and four children. Joe was born in Long Beach, California, the youngest of 10 children. He graduated from St. Anthony’s High School and then attended Dartmouth. He majored in engineering and was a member of Theta Delta Chi. After graduation Joe moved to the Los Angeles area to take a job at Rockwell, working on the space shuttle, and then a job with Hewlett Packard as a technical sales engineer. He married Kathy McMaster in April 1986. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Pensacola, Florida, where Joe graduated from Navy officer candidate school. He was attending flight school in Corpus Christi, Texas, when his dream of being a fighter pilot was cut short because of a failed eye test. He and then moved his family back to southern California and returned to HP. In 1993 Joe and family moved to Texas, where he worked for HP and explored being a Texan, which included living on a large acreage, eating barbeque, and raising large farm animals. After seven years they moved to Boise, where worked as a financial analyst for Dain Rauscher. He then earned his secondary teacher credentials and began teaching physics at Borah High School in 2011. In 2016 Joe was diagnosed with Stage 4 gastric cancer. He is survived by Kathy and children Tom, Maggi, Kelly, and Mark.
