Philip Howard DeTurk ’54
Philip Howard DeTurk ’54 passed away on June 4 in San Antonio, Texas. Phil came to Dartmouth from Garden City, New York, where he attended Garden City High School. At Dartmouth he was a philosophy major and a member of Jack-O-Lantern, Forensic Union, and WDBS. After graduation he obtained his master’s from Columbia in 1956 and an Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts in 1971. Phil taught at the Buckley School in New York City, Green Vale School in Glen Head, New York, and Herricks High School in New Hyde Park, New York. He then was assistant principal at Walpole Junior High School in Walpole, Massachusetts, and headmaster at Shepherd Knapp School in Boylston, Massachusetts. In 1977 he joined the faculty at Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as a professor, serving 20 years as dean. Phil is survived by his wife, Barbara, and children Sara and Chris.
