Robert Gene Levy ’54

Robert Gene Levy ’54 passed away on January 29 in Baltimore. Bob came to Dartmouth from Baltimore, where he attended Baltimore City College. At Dartmouth he was a history major. After graduation Bob began doctoral studies in history at Johns Hopkins University. His studies were interrupted by service in the Navy from 1955 to 1957. After discharge he entered the University of Virginia School of Law, graduating in 1960. In 1961 Bob joined the antitrust division of the U.S. Justice Department, which was headed by Robert F. Kennedy. While there he worked on several major antitrust cases. In 1964 Bob left the Justice Department and joined the antitrust department of the law firm of Frank, Bernstein, Conaway & Goldman in Baltimore, where he was later named partner. Bob retired from the firm in1990, then served as counsel to the Washington, D.C., law firm of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan for eight years. From 1990 to 2008 he taught an antitrust seminar at the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced Studies. Bob also taught economics and was a visiting professor at the Pericles Law Center in Moscow, Tallinn Law School in Estonia and Vilnius University in Lithuania. He also taught law and economics at Yale. His greatest joy was sailing his 32-foot sailboat, Tryst. He is survived by daughter Rachel ’86 and son Richard.
