George Millis Kingsley Jr. ’54
George Millis Kingsley Jr. ’54 passed away on January 25 at Rancho Bernardo, California. George came to Dartmouth from Shaker Heights, Ohio, where he attended high school. At Dartmouth he was an economics major and a brother of Phi Delta Theta. He was also a member of the Interfraternity Council, Glee Club and Ledyard Canoe Club. After graduation George was commissioned and spent two years in the U.S. Army stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the Ordinance Corps as battalion adjutant. Upon discharge he entered Harvard Business School, graduating in 1958 with an M.B.A. He spent the next 10 years selling life insurance and became a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, an international association of financial professionals. In 1968 he became a vice president of New England Life and its mutual fund subsidiary. George spent four years developing a nationwide marketing program, and in 1972 he took over New England Life’s Buffalo, New York, office. He served as president of the Cleveland and Buffalo chapters of the Association of Life Underwriters and as president of the Western New York General Agents & Managers Association. He served as United Way chairman and on the boards of the local chapters of the American Lung Association and YMCA. In 1982 George moved to Irvine, California, and in 1985 to Rancho Bernardo. In California he became the West Coast regional president of New England Mutual Life. He retired in 1992. George was predeceased by his wife, Virginia. He is survived by children George III, David and Karen.
