Robert Manton Dean III ’54 passed away on March 11 in Gladys, Virginia. Bob came to Dartmouth from Downingtown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the Haverford School. At Dartmouth he was a brother of Gamma Delta Chi and played on the squash team. In 1955 he graduated from the Tuck School and was commissioned in the U.S. Navy. Bob served 30 years in the Navy, three years of active duty that included time on the destroyer USS Rowe and 27 years in the Navy Reserve, where he attained the rank of captain. They restored the house, which was on the National Historic Register, and developed a part-time business farming and raising beef cattle. Bob was given the Class of 1954 Award. He is survived by Kit and children Robert IV, Katherine, William ’89 and Susan.
