Marvin F. Axelrod ’48

Marvin F. Axelrod ’48, most recently of Dedham, Massachusetts, died on November 2, 2017. Marv graduated from Boston Latin School and then Dartmouth, where he was a member of the DOC, Marching Band and Pi Lambda Phi. He earned his M.B.A. at Tuck School, graduating in 1950. His education was interrupted by service in the Merchant Marines from 1945 until 1947. He then joined his family business, retiring as president of Alps Sportswear Manufacturing Co. in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He was a longtime member of the Belmont (Massachusetts) Country Club. Marv was a lifelong supporter of Dartmouth and the class of ’48, serving in executive functions with a variety of responsibilities for both organizations. He was a member of our executive committee until his death. He and his wife, Zella (“Buzzy”), attended virtually all of our reunions until his health deteriorated. He is survived by Buzzy; daughter Diane and her husband, Malcom; daughter Robin and her husband, Jerry; daughter Ellen and her husband, Mark; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
