Arthur H. Rainey ’65

Arthur H. Rainey ’65 of Villanova, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at home December 17, 2017. Art came to Dartmouth from high school in Mansfield, Ohio. At Dartmouth he studied economics and was house manager of Tabard. He graduated from Dartmouth cum laude, went on to the law school at University of Pennsylvania and had a distinguished career as a litigator at the Dechert firm in Philadelphia. Art’s wife, Nancy, developed kidney disease, and through her long and ultimately successful search for a replacement kidney, Art became interested in helping others find replacement organs. He was chairman of Help Hope Live, a nonprofit dedicated to raising money and support to help transplant patients pay medical and related expenses. Nancy passed away in January 2017 after two transplants. After their retirement, Art and Nancy loved to travel and were devoted to son Douglas ’94, daughter-in-law Toshiko Uchida ’93, grandchildren Lauren and Carolyn and sister Elizabeth—all of whom survive Art.
