Alan Choate Davis ’52

Alan Choate Davis ’52 of Port Chester, New York, passed away on December 9, 2017. Alan was born in New Hampshire on April 20,1930, and in 1947 graduated from Manchester Central High School, where he served four years as class president. He then spent one year at Exeter Academy and graduated in 1952 from Dartmouth, where he was an American literature major and a member of the track team, Theta Delta Chi and Casque & Gauntlet. Alan then served three years as an officer in the U.S. Army. He graduated in 1958 from Harvard Law School, where he met his wife, Mary, and then embarked on a successful corporate legal career. He was general counsel of the tank car comp committee of the American Petroleum Institute, a corporate lawyer to Gulf Oil Corp and ITT Continental Baking Co. and assistant general counsel of Boehringer Ingelheim Corp. Alan and his family were longtime residents of Rye, New York, where he was an active member of the Rye Presbyterian Church, the Manursing Island Club and the Rye Youth Council. He also served as chair of the Westchester Coalition of Business and Industry and was active in other civic and community undertakings. Alan is survived by Mary; children Russell ’80, Mark ’81 and Susan ’86; and grandchildren Lauren, Kevin ’10, Neil, Andrew ’16, Holly and Michael. Alan’s late father, Kenneth Davis ’24, and his great-uncle, Ralph Davis class of 1913, were also Dartmouth alumni.
