Arnold Stanley Linsky ’54

Arnold Stanley Linsky ’54 passed away on June 27 in Durham, New Hampshire. Arnie came to Dartmouth from Ashland, Massachusetts, where he attended Ashland High School. At Dartmouth he was a sociology major and a brother of Tau Epsilon Phi. Arnie served two years in the U.S. Army in Germany. He attended the graduate school of sociology at the University of Washington, receiving his Ph.D. in sociology in 1966. Arnie then began a 34-year career at the University of New Hampshire. He was a full professor and served as chair of the department of sociology. His research and teaching focused on the social causes of stress and mental illness. He authored several books and articles on that subject. Arnie also served in the department of liberal arts at the University of New Hampshire as a senior faculty fellow. After retirement in 2000 Arnie and his wife, Betty, traveled throughout the United States and Europe while continuing to live in Durham. They dabbled in antiques and old books. Arnie is survived by Betty and children Nicholas and Isabella.
