William Shaffer Roberts ’52

William Shaffer Roberts ’52 of Mercer Island, Washington, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2013, in Bellevue, Washington. Bill attended Lincoln High School in Portland,Oregon.He then went on to attend Dartmouth and Wesleyan for a short period before graduating from Washington State University in 1954 with a degree in business administration. While at WSU he met Charlene Luckey and they married in 1954. He started his banking career in 1954 at National Bank of Commerce and stayed through its various successor banks. Bill graduated from the West Coast School of Banking and was a member of the Master Appraisal Institute. He retired in 1986. He was a member of the Seattle Symphony, the Rainier Club and the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church. He was also a 50-year member of the Washington Athletic Club and lifetime member of the Columbia Tower Club. He is survived by Charlene, children Charles and Susan, their spouses and four grandsons.
