Wilbur J. Springer ’57

Wilbur J. Springer ’57, M.D.,died at his home in Seattle on September 13, 2016. Bill came to Dartmouth from Ashland (Ohio) High School, where he still holds several records in track and field. At Dartmouth Bill majored in zoology and belonged to Beta Theta Pi, Casque & Gauntlet and Green Key Society. He attended medical school at Harvard and earned his M.D. in 1961.The U.S. Navy took Bill to the Pacific Northwest in 1963. It was there he met Joan, whom he married in 1965. He began practicing internal medicine in Seattle in 1967 and retired from private practice in 2000. Bill served as medical director of the Kenney Co. until 2008. He also volunteered on four international trips with Medical Teams International. Bill took great pride in serving his community for 41 years. He was a gentle and compassionate man of deep faith who lived for his roles as husband, father and physician. He enjoyed bicycle riding, reading and the view from his home—which he cherished each day. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Joan, three children and eight grandchildren.
