Thomas Spiliotis ’73

Thomas Spiliotis ’73 died on October 3, 2016, in Auburndale, Florida, from complications following surgery related to cancer. A native of the Bronx, New York, Tom gradually lost his vision by the age of 7 due to congenital retina disease. He came to Dartmouth from the New York Institute for the Education of the Blind, where he graduated as valedictorian and class president. At the College he majored in history, worked at WDCR and was the vice president and the athletic chairman of the Harold Parmington Foundation, his fraternity. Tom’s roommate and classmate Todd Keiller, along with Tom and a couple other Woodward Hall residents, formed the campus band Bobby and the Corvairs. Tom was “Frankie DeCarlo,” the piano player in the group, which reunited in 2014 to play at the class of 1973’s 40th reunion. Following graduation Tom attended law school at the University of Colorado and later was admitted to practice law in Florida. Tom was the principal owner of Rest Stop Vending Inc., in Sumterville, Florida. He served as a representative on the Florida State Division of Blind Services Committee of Vendors and in 2013 was elected for a term as the committee’s chair. Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy; children Ernie, Jenny and Keri; and their mother and his former wife, Rebecca.
