G. Gale Roberson Jr. ’55

G. Gale Roberson Jr. ’55 passed away September 12, 2016, in his home in Wilmette, Illinois. Gale came to Hanover from Loyola High School in Wilmette. He majored in English and was a member of Dartmouth Outing Club, Phi Delta Alpha, WDCR, NROTC and the Corinthian Yacht Club. He was also chairman of the Dorm and Fraternity Statue Committee for Winter Carnival. Gale served two years as a lieutenant in the Navy on board a destroyer. He then graduated from Harvard Law School with a specialty in securities and general corporate law. Gale became a partner in the Chicago law firm of Holland and Knight and later served as an arbitrator in investment and securities disputes. Gale served Dartmouth in many alumni activities, including class secretary, Alumni Fund volunteer and admissions interviewer. He also was active in many local philanthropic causes, including the Saint Vincent de Paul Rehabilitation Center in Chicago and the North Suburban Youth Foundation. Gale’s children Michael ’80 and Ann ’83 followed him to Hanover. They survive him, along with his wife, Barbara, and grandchildren Lauren and David.
