George Graboys ’54 has earned a University of Rhode Island President’s Award for his efforts in higher education. The former CEO of Citizens Financial Group in Providence, Rhode Island, Graboys served on the R.I. Board of Governors for Higher Education for 11 years, including three as chair, and as an adjunct professor at the university’s business school.
David F. Martin ’78, M.D., has been named executive medical director of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The former director of sports medicine at Wake Forest University, Martin will be responsible for the development of certification programs and will work on the board’s credentialing process.
Martha Pollack ’79 has been named Cornell University’s 14th president. Most recently the provost and executive vice president of academic affairs at the University of Michigan, Pollack is an expert in the field of artificial intelligence.
Vivian Johnson Korthuis ’86 has been named the first female CEO of the Association of Village Council Presidents, made up of 56 tribes in 48 villages throughout the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, Alaska. She has worked for the nonprofit for 14 years, most recently as vice president of programs, and will oversee its $52 million budget and 400 employees in areas that include Head Start, tribal welfare and public safety.
Allan Spooner ’89 returns to his native Chicago to serve as president and CEO of the Franciscan Health hospitals in Olympia Fields and Chicago Heights. He was previously president of the hospital division for Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital System in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he led the successful merger of two state healthcare systems.
Zola Mashariki ’94, head of original programming at BET Networks, has been named to The Hollywood Reporter’s “Next Gen Plus Ten List.” The profile noted that Mashariki, who teaches a producing class at University of Southern California, oversees original shows such as Being Mary Jane and Real Husbands of Hollywood and miniseries The New Edition Story and Madiba.
Travis D’Amato ’03, managing director of commercial real estate services provider Jones Lang LaSalle, has been named to Boston Business Journal’s 2016 “40 Under 40” list.
