Theodore Erlon Bachelder ’59

Theodore Erlon Bachelder ’59 died on April 3. He entered Dartmouth from Gorham (Maine) High School and was in the 3-2 program with Tuck School. After receiving his M.B.A. in 1960 Ted began his first career, investments, with Northern Trust Bank in Chicago and then moved on to Boston, where he worked for two investment firms. In 1973 he and his wife, Rae, returned to their native state, Maine, and founded T.E. Bachelder Associates, a real estate business in Edgecomb serving Lincoln County. They operated that business for about 20 years and retired to Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, in 1995. In 2009 they moved south to West Lebanon, New Hampshire. In the winter months they often vacationed on the coast of North Carolina. Ted had a passion for antique cars, historic houses and architecture and, particularly after moving near Hanover, Dartmouth men’s hockey. In addition to Rae, whom he met in kindergarten and married while he was in Tuck School, he leaves their two children, Todd ’81, Tu’82, and Loren ’83 and their spouses; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers and three sisters predeceased him and a fourth sister died shortly after Ted’s death.
