Michael E. Burke ’62

Michael E. Burke ’62 died January 5, 2015, in the Vermont Respite House in Williston, Vermont, after a nine-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Mike graduated from Bristol (Vermont) High School, entered Dartmouth and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1966 with a bachelor’s in animal sciences. He received a master’s in physiology and biophysics from the University of Connecticut and Colorado State University. Mike’s career was varied, beginning with Squibb Pharmaceuticals, then as an educator and vice principal at Vergennes (Vermont) Union High School. In 1976 he joined with his father in Burke Real Estate, continuing in real estate and property management until shortly before his death. He also served as a justice of the peace in Bristol. He was a lifelong student who in his later years studied Spanish and traveled to Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Mexico to immerse himself in the language and culture. Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Donna, son Brendan and wife Tiffany, daughter Heather and husband Bob, grandchildren Michael, Delaney, Bradley and Caitlin, siblings Marie, Patrick and Sheila, sister-in-law Joan and 17 nieces and nephews and their families.
