Robert C. Bryan ’48
Robert C. Bryan ’48 died at his home in Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, on October 27, 2015. Bob attended the Maplewood, New Jersey, school system and Columbia High School for two years before taking his senior year at Mercersberg Academy. He entered Dartmouth in the Air Force V-5 program and after one semester left for basic training and became an aerial photographer. He served in Japan after the war at Showa Air Force base before returning to Dartmouth, where he was a member of Sigma Nu and The Dartmouth. He graduated in 1949 and opened the Oreland, Pennsylvania, office of the family firm of Dunn and Bryan that was founded by his father, serving as a manufacturer’s representative for several lines of hand tools. He married Ann-Barrett Holmes in 1950 and they had daughter Leslie and son Jeffrey. Bob participated with Jeff in the local Indian Guides Tribe for several years and as Jeff became a year-round swimmer, officiated at AAU swim meets throughout the Mideast. This dedication continued after the family moved to Short Hills, New Jersey, in 1970. After his father retired in 1970 Bob became CEO of Dunn and Bryan until he closed the business in 1970 and joined Janel Inc. in Boundbrook, New Jersey, retiring in 2004. Bob was president of the Fellowship Village resident council and enjoyed working in the Fellowship Village Store. Bob is survived by Ann-Barrett; son Jeff; Leslie and her husband, Charles; and brothers Barry and Thomas.
