Robert G. Richmond ’57

Robert G. Richmond ’57 died October 27, 2015, near his farm and home in Kingwood, West Virginia. Bob attended Orford (New Hampshire) High School, where he played soccer and baseball and was captain of the basketball team. At Dartmouth he was active in ROTC, the Outing Club and Panarchy. After graduation he served in the Army for several years. This was followed by a long and distinguished career with the U.S. State Department as a foreign service officer in Berlin, Saigon, Brisbane, Stockholm, Haiti and the United States. He retired early because of the illness of his first wife, Helen, who predeceased him. He later married Caroline, who survives him, along with his brother, Peter ’59, son Kenneth and daughters Helen and Polly. Bob and Caroline bought an historic house and farm in Kingwood, and they spent some 16 years restoring it to its 1818 glory. They also enjoyed traveling and camping and made several trips to Europe, Canada, China and parts of the United States.
