David Ignatius Sullivan Sr. ’73

David Ignatius Sullivan Sr. ’73 died on November 20, 2015, in Ridgefield, Connecticut. David prepared for Dartmouth at the Belmont Hill School near Boston. He was a hockey standout at the College and was on the men’s hockey all-time roster of outstanding players. David was a member of Kappa Sigma and Sphinx. After Dartmouth he began a successful career in the reinsurance industry that progressed to a senior vice presidency with the General Reinsurance Corp. in Stamford, Connecticut, and later with the Aon Corp. in New York. In 1978 in Massachusetts David ran the U.S. senatorial primary campaign of Kathleen Sullivan Alioto. He was for many years a dedicated youth hockey coach in Ridgefield, an avid golf player and a fan of crossword puzzles. David’s family loved his witty sense of humor. He is survived by children Mary, David Jr. and Elizabeth and their mother Alexandra, his former wife. David was predeceased by several Dartmouth alumni in his family, including his father, Charles ’31, brother Charles ’63 and cousin Robert ’37.
