Donald Richard Meltzer ’54

Donald Richard Meltzer ’54 passed away on March 30, 2015, in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Don came to Dartmouth from Malden, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Malden High School. After graduating from Tuck School, Don went to work for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell as a public accountant. In 1967 he joined United Fruit Co., becoming vice president of finance. After United Fruit was acquired by United Brands in 1970, Don held various positions at United Brands, eventually being elected vice president of administration and finance in 1974. In 1976 he left United Brands and joined Instron Corp., a small technology company in Canton, Massachusetts, serving as vice president for finance until his retirement. Don served as president of the Massachusetts Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, copresident of Walk ’n’ Mass and newsletter editor for Volksport Association. He also served on the board of trustees of First Parish of Sudbury and was a member of the Town of Sudbury finance committee. Don is survived by his wife, Polly, and children Kimberly and Christopher.
