Jerome Sumner Mass ’59

Jerome Sumner Mass ’59 died on February 12, 2013. He entered Dartmouth from Far Rockaway (New York) High School and majored in English. He was an active participant in the Dartmouth Players, including serving as personnel manager and administrative director. Following service in the Army he had a long career with the National Security Agency, eventually serving as chief of station in Stuttgart, Germany, and then in Menwith Hill in the north of England, where he retired. Jerry spoke several languages and played a number of musical instruments. He was a writer and director of plays for local theater groups and was chairman of the Harrogate Theatre in North Yorkshire, England, for several years. He was an avid participant in a number of outdoor activities, particularly hiking and fly-fishing. He leaves Geraldine, his wife of 35 years, children Darren and Stacy and four grandchildren.
