Burrows Barstow Jr. ’43

Burrows Barstow Jr. ’43 died July 7, 2015, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Burrows grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio. He graduated from the University School, where he was on the news board and the athletic council and played hockey and tennis. At Dartmouth he majored in economics and was a member of the business board of the Jack-O-Lantern, the Interdormitory Council, Foley House and Delta Upsilon. He also attended Tuck School. During World War II he served in the Navy as a lieutenant and commanding officer of a refrigerated cargo vessel. After discharge he had a successful career in sales and sales management in the paperboard and packaging industry. Ill health forced him into early retirement. He and his second wife, Katherine Cooper Moorhouse, were married in 1965. Katie had three boys to add to his existing family of two girls and a boy. In 1978 they moved to St. Petersburg, in part because of Burrows’ love of tennis. Years later he was given an award for his outstanding service to the St. Petersburg Tennis Club, where he was an officer and a director. Katie died in 2010. Burrows is survived by children Margaret, Burrows III and Sarah; stepsons William, Leslie and Richard; two grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
