Alan Garrigues Smith ’49

Alan Garrigues Smith ’49, M.D., died on April 5, 2015, in Brooklyn, New York, where he lived. Born in Minneapolis, Al came to Dartmouth from Blake School. He earned his M.D. at the University of Minnesota Medical School, and spent his career as chief of orthopedic surgery at the Brooklyn Veterans Administration Hospital. He was an avid outdoorsman with a cabin in the Adirondacks. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, daughter Peggy and son Peter.
