James T. Duffy III ’48

James T. Duffy III ’48 was residing in Marblehead, Massachusetts, when he died on April 4, 2015. He was born in Easton, Pennsylvania, and educated at the Haverford (Pennsylvania) School until 1941, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army and joined the 816th Army Corps of Engineers, stationed in Newcastle, England. Upon discharge he continued his secondary education at Cheshire (Connecticut) Academy before coming to Dartmouth and subsequently to Michigan Technological University. He married Jeanne Cassidy from Watertown, Connecticut, in 1953. Jim and Jeanne moved to Marblehead after he accepted a job with General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts. His varied career included work in Suffolk Downs in Boston, Belmont Park Racing Association, Wollaston Alloys Corp., a foundry in Braintree, Massachusetts, and the Iranian Naval Shipyard in Bandar Abbas, Iran. In addition to Jeanne, he is survived by children Maureen, Jim (and his wife, Lisa) and John and five grandchildren.
