Marc Charles Krantz ’82

Marc Charles Krantz ’82 died on December 28, 2014, after a skiing accident in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Marc came to Dartmouth from Shaker Heights (Ohio) High School. He was a history major and participated in the language study abroad program in Mainz, Germany. Marc was a member of Alpha Chi Alpha. After graduation Marc attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he met his future wife, Michele. After law school Marc practiced law in Washington, D.C., for seven years. In 1992 he returned to Cleveland, where he joined the law firm of Kohrman Jackson & Krantz. He was named managing partner in 1999. Marc specialized in securities, commercial finance and corporate law. He was a community leader, serving as chairman of the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority and on numerous boards. Marc was instrumental in Cleveland hosting the 2016 Republican National Convention, according to Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, and was credited by the vice chairman of the port’s board with helping Cleveland land a direct vessel service to Europe. Marc is remembered by his friends for his gentle demeanor and dry and creative sense of humor. Classmate Tim von Herrmann recalls, “Be it academic stresses, some intramural event, a social setting at Thayer or some confab at a party, Marc was always calm, cool, collected and, of course, witty.” Marc is survived by Michele; children Ellen, Tara and Ross; parents Joan and Byron ’57; and brother Brett ’85.
