Benjamin Fulton Jr. ’55

Benjamin Fulton Jr. ’55 of Oceanville, New Jersey, died on April 19, 2014. “Bernie” came to Hanover from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, having graduated from William Penn High School. At Dartmouth he majored in government, joined Tau Epsilon Phi and Casque & Gauntlet and was selected for the Green Key Society. He participated for four years as a halfback on the football team. In 1956 he received a master’s in public administration from Syracuse University. Bernie spent decades working in government at the local, state and federal levels, including a stint working for President Johnson. In 1969 he moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey, to assume leadership of its economic development program. Civically active, he managed the election campaign of the city’s first black mayor. In his later years Bernie owned the local Greyhound Bus Co. and Western Union franchises. His personal interests included being a musician, genealogist, astrologer, writer, traveler and gourmand. Bernie is survived by his wife, Lena, three daughters, two sons and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by one daughter.
