Joseph Martin Giden ’55

Joseph Martin Giden ’55 died on September 17, 2014, after a brief illness. Joe was born in N.Y.C. and attended Bronx High School of Science. He majored in government and served as technical director of the campus radio. A member of the Pre-Law Club, Joe subsequently graduated cum laude from Harvard University Law School in 1958. After serving two years in the armed services Joe settled in southern California, where he practiced law for more than 50 years, specializing in surety, title insurance and the construction industry. He was called a “lawyer’s lawyer” by his colleagues and partners. He pursued the law as a partner in the firm Gibbs, Giden, Locher, Turner, Senet & Wittbrodt retiring in 2014. His resolution, as expressed in our 55th yearbook, of retiring never came to fruition. A highlight of recent years was serving in the Israeli Army for periods of three weeks so that “regular” army personnel could be freed up for more important activities. Joe’s wife, Ruth, also served several tours. He is survived by his wife and children Michael and Deborah.
