Howland Shaw Russell ’54
Howland Shaw Russell ’54 passed away on February 23, 2015, in Stittsville, Ontario, Canada. Howdy came to Dartmouth from Carpinteria, California, where he attended Cate School in Santa Barbara. At Dartmouth he was a geography major and a brother of Delta Tau Delta. He was executive manager of the rowing club and rowed on the crew. After graduation Howdy was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force, serving for 30 years. He was a decorated fighter pilot. He did a six-year tour in the Pentagon and served as a U.S. defense attaché in Brussels, Belgium, and Ottawa, Canada. After service Howdy settled in Ontario, where he was active in the Britannia Yacht Club and Al-Anon. He is survived by his wife, Sheila, and children Lynn, Howland Jr. and Hamilton.
