Benjamin Franklin Hadley Jr. ’52 died on February 23, 2015. Ben was born in Columbus, Ohio, on February 6, 1930. He graduated from Upper Arlington (Ohio) High School in 1948 and Dartmouth (Phi Beta Kappa) in 1952. At Dartmouth Ben was a Tuck major and a member of Phi Delta Theta and Glee Club. He then earned an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business in 1953. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1956, retiring from the Navy Reserve in 1968. Ben was a career insurance professional, serving as a general agent with Columbus Mutual Life Insurance and partnering with his brother, Bob ’55, in Hadley Associates. He was a life member of the insurance industry’s Million Dollar Round Table, president of the Columbus chapter of chartered life underwriters (CLU) and a 1985 CLU of the Year. Ben was also active in Columbus civic and social affairs and, on the personal side, was a sportsman with many outdoor interests, especially around his Snowmass, Colorado, home. He sang in Vaud Villities for 30 years, was president of the Zanesfield Rod and Gun Club and was a member in the Athletic Club, Scioto and Columbus county clubs. Ben is survived by his wife, Lydia; brother William ’60; children Kit, Susan, Scott and Lynne; stepchildren Lucia, John, Sam and Andrew; their spouses; and 11 grandchildren. His brother, Bob, passed away last year.
