Robert George Fisher Jr. ’76

Robert George Fisher Jr. ’76, known to us as “Bob” or “Boris,” passed away on August 10, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. To those who knew him he was emblematic of a generation: universal, charitable, witty, sympathetic, amusable, genuine, thoughtful and simultaneously critical and all-forgiving. (He perfected snark early on, but lost interest in it over the years.) His memorial service at St. Michael’s Church in Manhattan on October 4, 2014, drew hundreds of attendees, including seven ardent Dartmouth friends, along with their spouses and offspring, and friends from work, vacation trips, church affairs and many other spheres in which Bob captivated anyone who knew him. While at Dartmouth we met Bob in so many places, doing so many things. He was dorm chairman at Fayerweather Hall, a member of Phi Delt and the Marching Band, a gold coat at Thayer and an enthusiastic and creative presence in English, music and many other academic pursuits. Outside the classroom he regaled us with his stunning, encyclopedic knowledge of music, politics, pop culture and just about anything else one might mention to him. After Dartmouth Bob did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, and subsequently graduated from Rutgers Law School. He spent most of his career in the real estate industry, both in private practice and in government for the New York City Economic Development Corp. He is survived by his mother, Joan, and sister, Maryjane.
