James Paul St. John ’65

James Paul St. John ’65, whom many of us knew as Jim Fosso, died on December 31, 2014, in Seattle, Washington, from colon cancer. Jim is survived by his wife, Sara, daughter Samantha, mother Nona and sister Kristi, along with many extended family members. Jim loved the arts and was an accomplished artist and guitarist from his days as a freshman on the first floor of Cohen Hall. He was a member of Delta Upsilon and Green Key Society. He entertained all of us with material in the Jack-O-Lantern. During his first summer home from college he sang with the Gaslight Singers on a TV show called Sing America. From that appearance the band was selected to perform at the 1962 World’s Fair at Seattle Center. After college Jim did a stint as a delivery truck driver in New York City. For a time he found an outlet for his artistry as a cabinet-maker in upstate New York. He returned to music in 1975 and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he met Sara. They married and moved to Seattle in 1979, where they sang as a duet. While music remained a primary focus, Jim had many other talents, including photography, painting, woodworking and writing a good rant. He was passionate about many things, but nothing would get him as worked up as a good political discussion.
