Francis Xavier Gina ’63

Francis Xavier Gina ’63, known at Dartmouth as Peter, a longtime resident of Aspen-Basalt, Colorado, and former member of the Highlands Ski and Avalanche Patrol, died January 23, 2015, in Stamford, Connecticut, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer, according to Leonard Levitt ’63, his brother-in-law. Peter grew up in New York City and attended the Collegiate School. At Dartmouth Peter was a member of Chi Phi. He went on to receive a master’s from Columbia Business School and to serve in the Marine Corps. After working on Wall Street and at Sardi’s, his family’s restaurant, Peter moved to Aspen in the early 1970s. Peter served on the Highlands Ski and Avalanche Patrol while working at several restaurants in the Aspen area, the last of which was the upscale Pinions. After retiring Peter volunteered at the local nursing home and for Lift Up, an organization that distributes food to the needy. As the culmination of his love of the Aspen area, Peter helped design and build his own straw-bale house in Basalt, where he lived for the last 12 years. Peter will be remembered by his friends and family as an avid skier, biker, hiker, as well as a lover of wildlife. In addition to Leonard, he is survived by sister Susan and nephew and niece Michael and Jennifer ’04 Levitt.
