Michael Kent Caverly ’54

Michael Kent Caverly ’54 passed away at home in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on December 16, 2014. He came to Dartmouth from Shickshinny, Pennsylvania, where he attended Shickshinny High School. Mike was a brother of Delta Tau Delta. Mike was a career U.S. naval officer. He began his naval career as an NROTC scholarship student at Dartmouth. In his junior year he transferred to Ohio State University to follow a Navy Supply Corps officer program. Mike received his Navy commission in 1954, retiring 28 years later as a captain. He served in Vietnam, where he was responsible for the movement of material through the I-Corps region by way of Da Nang Harbor and Da Nang Airport. Later he was the senior supply officer for Navy Construction Battalion 10 (the Seabees) at Khe Sanh, Vietnam. After his duty in Vietnam Mike was assigned to Stanford University’s school of business, where he earned a M.B.A. Near the end of his naval career he served as commanding officer of the naval supply center at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He earned many commendations and medals as a result of his service and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Mike is survived by his wife, Ingrid, and children Megan, Erin and Michael.
