George Slocum Huntington ’82

George Slocum Huntington ’82 died of pancreatic cancer in Laramie, Wyoming, on August 14, 2014. George was born in Bath, Maine, and grew up in Harpswell, Maine, where he graduated from Mount Ararat High School in 1977. After spending a year in New Zealand with his family, he attended Dartmouth, where he participated in a language study abroad program at Laval University in Quebec, Canada, and a foreign study program for earth sciences. George joined Alpha Chi in the spring of 1979 and was a geology major. It was clear from the time George started kindergarten that his biggest pleasure in life was other people. Fraternity brother and roommate Bob Bauer ’82 remarked, “George was a very kind and generous person. He was always ready with a smile and had an amazingly positive attitude. George blessed those in his life with unconditional love.” George earned a master’s in civil engineering from the University of Wyoming, where he was employed at the time of his death. George loved downhill skiing, ice hockey and soccer. He was also an accomplished musician and photographer and a prolific gardener. In 2010 George married Anne Marie Powell and adopted her daughter, Sophie. Their second child, Sam, was born in 2011. George also leaves behind his parents, Charles and Louise, several siblings and many other relatives and friends. A college fund has been established for George’s children; contributions can be made by contacting Pamela Burgess at (307) 721-5612 or pamela.burgess@uniwyo.com.
