Jesse Johnson Morgan Jr. ’52
Jesse Johnson Morgan Jr. ’52 passed away on September 22, 2014, in Sun City, Florida. He was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on September 20, 1930, grew up in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, graduated from Monson (Massachusetts) Academy, in 1948 and Dartmouth in 1952, majoring in sociology. Jack was a member of Zeta Psi and was most noted for his skill as a trumpet player in the Barbary Coast Band, the Green Collegians, the Marching Band and the Sultans Jazz Band. He later pursued graduate work in European history at New York University, receiving an M.A. with honors and completing all coursework toward his doctorate. Jack started his career in education at Cardigan Mountain School in New Hampshire and then taught at the Pingry School in Hillside, New Jersey, becoming assistant headmaster in 1967. He then became headmaster at the Vail-Deane School in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the Palmer School in Miami and the Wheeling Country Day School in Wheeling, West Virginia. Jack also had a connection to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, when he and his family came to Harwich Port, Massachusetts, intermittently from the mid-1960s until his retirement in 1992. In 2004 Jack and his wife of 63 years, Dottie, moved to Florida. Jack leaves behind Dottie, children Jesse III, Cheryl and Peter, their spouses and five grandchildren. Jesse’s father, Jesse ’26, and his brother, David ’58, predeceased him.
