Larrabee MacMillan Johnson ’43

Larrabee MacMillan Johnson ’43, Tu’44, died August 26, 2014, in Redding, Connecticut. Larry grew up in Binghamton, New York, and graduated from Central High School where he was president of the student council, worked on the school paper, was a member of the honor society and was active in debating and dramatics. At Dartmouth he was a member of Green Key, the Forensic Union, the rowing club and Sigma Nu. He was also business manager of the Pictorial and received the Daniel Webster Debating Award. He was also a Tuck non-graduate. During the war he served in the China-Burma-India theater with the U.S. Office of Strategic Services. Following the war and law school he practiced for a few years in Binghamton before moving to New York City, where he joined the legal department of W.R. Grace and Co. Shortly thereafter he went into private practice with Coubert Brothers. His final move was to the corporate legal department of Ted Bates and Co. Inc. After retirement Larry and his wife, Lucy, whom he married in the early 1950s, split their time between their New York City condominium and Rockport, Maine. They enjoyed traveling, skiing and gardening and from time to time participated in various charitable activities. Larry was active with Dartmouth as a class officer, fundraiser, member of the executive committee and head agent in Tuck annual giving. Larry was predeceased by a daughter, Susan. He is survived by Lucy and daughters Pamela, Amy and Christine.
