John Swan Weatherley Jr. ’73

John Swan Weatherley Jr. ’73 died of cancer on March 5, 2014, at home in New Canaan, Connecticut. A native of Bridgewater, Connecticut, John prepared for Dartmouth at Choate. He majored in anthropology, was a Big Brother, the social chairman of Alpha Theta and a member of Casque & Gauntlet. After graduation John earned a master’s in anthropology at Princeton. As a Fulbright scholar he studied at the Paris-Sorbonne University and at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. From 1978 to 1989 John was the owner of Weatherley Building Co. in Princeton, New Jersey. He later served as managing owner of Berwick Land Corp. of New York from 1989 to 2006. For more than 40 years John was an active member of the Gurdjieff Foundation of New York. John is survived by his wife, Susan, and children James, Jebb, Zoe and Noel along with five grandchildren and three sisters. John was predeceased by his father, John S. Weatherley ’31.
