Richard Allen Brown ’52
Richard Allen Brown ’52 passed away in New Canaan, Connecticut, on April 2, 2014. He was born January 13, 1929 in Austin, Minnesota. Dick, or “Brownie,” as all his friends called him, excelled in high school sports, winning his first state championship with the men’s basketball team in 1946 and graduating all state in football and basketball. After graduating from Deerfield Academy Dick entered Dartmouth, where he was a member of Beta Theta Phi and Sphinx and the starting kicker for the football team, still holding college records to this day. Following graduation from Dartmouth in 1952 with a major in history, Dick went on to proudly serve as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. After returning home from duty overseas he met Lynn Johanson and they married in 1956 in San Francisco, Lynn’s hometown. Dick worked first in the office equipment business in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and then in financial services and financial consulting on the East Coast. He and his family lived in Darien, Connecticut, for 54 years. Dick was an active Dartmouth alumnus and regional Dartmouth club president (1960-61). He was a long-time member of Wee Burn Country Club and an avid golfer. In addition he was a member of the Darien Men’s Association. For the past two years Dick and Lynn lived in New Canaan. Lynn, his wife of 58 years, daughters Suzie and Jodi and grandchildren Alex and Taylor survive him.
