Robert Benjamin Kirsch ’47

Robert Benjamin Kirsch ’47 of Pound Ridge, New York, died of cancer on April 12, 2014. He grew up in Manhattan and attended DeWitt Clinton High School where, by his own admission, he had an undistinguished record. He was, however, proud of his achievements as a Boy Scout and a Scout leader. He was assigned to Dartmouth in the Navy V-12 program and was discharged in 1946. He returned, graduated in 1947 and then from Tuck School in 1948. In college he joined Pi Lambda Phi and participated in skating. He founded Robert Rollins Blazer, starting with the manufacture and sale of school uniforms and progressing to career apparel. In 1972 he sold the business to Work Wear. In 1975 he joined his wife in her food business. With their son they developed Abigail Kirsch Catering Relationships. In 1996 the operation was turned over to their son and Bob became chairman. He then had more time to travel and become involved in philanthropic activities, mainly on the foundation board of Westchester Community College. Bob was a lifelong supporter of Dartmouth, serving on the class executive committee from 1997 until this year, as secretary from 1967 to 1972 and as reunion chairman for our 50th, 55th, 60th and 65th reunions. His interest and activity on behalf of the class will be missed. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
